Getting to Lancaster University

 

Lancaster University lies just south of the City of Lancaster in the north west of England

Airports

Manchester Airport - Main international airport for the north west. Most major airlines fly from here.

Liverpool Airport - Served mainly by EasyJet

Blackpool Airport - Served mainly by RyanAir (via London Stanstead)

 

Manchester Airport has a direct train link to Lancaster. Trains for Lancaster leave roughly every hour (more information can be found at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/).

It is also possible to get trains from Liverpool and Blackpool, although this will first requiring getting a bus/taxi to the rail station. If you intend to use the train it is cheaper to buy a return ticket (£20), rather than two singles.

 

An alternative to taking a train from the airport is to arrange for an airport taxi. A return taxi trip is expensive (roughly £90), and so is only worth doing if a few of you are going to use it. In addition airport taxi's need to be booked in advance (1-2 weeks in advance). If you wish to have an airport taxi booked, let us know.

 

Trains

For those already in the UK there are direct trains from many of the major cities (London, Manchester, Birmingham, etc). London to Lancaster takes just under 3 hours. More information can be found at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

 

Taxis

Taxi services are available from the rail and bus stations (taxi tel. numbers: (01524) 32090; 35666 or 848848). Fares from the train station to campus are about £7.

 

Buses

Buses (numbers 2, 2A, X2, 3 and 4) leave regularly (every 5 minutes) for the university from Lancaster bus station (Damside street). All buses drop off/pick up at the University underpass, beneath Alexandra Square in the centre of campus.
